Vast sections of the speech were excised for space reasons. A more obvious explanation is that the phrase was superfluous to the main message: "I believe our countrymen will show themselves capable of standing up to it, [like the brave men of Barcelona], and will be able to stand up to it, and carry on in spite of it, at least as well as any other people in the world." Since “the brave men of Barcelona” appears in Hansard (the Parliamentary Debates), Churchill’s original broadcast, and every book containing the speech, why would anyone “censor” these six words in the audio? Do you know anything about it? It seems that only the reference to Barcelona was edited, not an entire paragraph or so... Any plausible explanation? Censorship?
